Update From Our Blended Learning Lenses Course

July 21, 2014 – Now in the fourth week of our blended course, participants are engaged in rich on-line discussions and reflections surrounding the Learning Lenses and their application to students. This week’s activities, and small group work focusing on the Ordering Systems and Neuromotor strengths and challenges have encouraged participants to consider how these constructs and their demands surface in their classrooms.

Here are some participant reflections:

“My main goal [for September] is to not jump to any conclusions about a child and to really delve into who they are-  figuring out their temperament, ecology, or neurological development.  I feel that this will help me see who they are and how to best work with them.”  -Y.S.

“When students are not performing up to par or are having a social problem, it is so much easier to help them and teach them when we really understand who they are and where they are coming from.” -S.Y.

“I appreciate the quote by Dr. Levine, “It is really important not to mistake a behavior problem as an end in itself…”  and noticed that when I shifted to a non-judgmental description [of my focus student] it was like opening a door for change instead of generating a feeling of hopelessness.” – C.H.

“When our school begins again in September, I will make a conscious effort to consider all of the ecological aspects  that were put forth in the material herein. I will continue to nurture a strong sense of community in the classroom.”- J.S.
