70 Educators at Annual Retreat A.K.A. “Hidden Sparks Family Reunion”

70 educators from participating schools gathered yesterday for our annual retreat, or as one of our coaches said, “The Hidden Sparks family reunion.”

Held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the invigorating day was kick started with a presentation by Kathleen Cushman, co-founder of the nonprofit What Kids Can Do (WKCD), author of “The Motivation Equation” and an expert on motivation and mastery. After she presented her work on understanding what motivates children to learn and succeed, the Hidden Sparks leadership team facilitated the connection of Ms. Cushman’s material with the work that Hidden Sparks faculty coaches do in their schools on a regular basis. The afternoon was dedicated to focusing on coaches’ practice in their schools and was capped off with an exercise in developing an activity for a meta-cognitive fair.
